Physical Description
Physical DescriptionOrnamental chest with painted ceramic plates on all sides depicting various Mexican scenes and themes as well as religious imagery framed in a red border. The edges of the chest are all silver with swirling embellishments and a bell in each of the top four corners. The latch at the front of the chest is oval shaped and contains the image of the Coat of Arms of the City of Jalisco as well as the city name in metal letters. Interior of the chest is all metal.
Historical NoteReceived as a gift from Alfonso Peterson, Municipal President of the city of Guadalajara, on the occasion of President Barack Obama's official visit to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico for the annual North American Leaders' Summit in August 2009.Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
