Physical Description
Physical DescriptionA handmade collage made of mixed media on canvas. The piece features imagery pertaining to global warming with drawings of individuals planting trees and managing forests. The canvas has a black, red, and green border painted along the exterior edge and a light blue background. Some of the images are drawn in pencil and crayon on paper, and then pasted to the piece. There is an inscription painted along the right side of the artwork.
Inscriptions and MarkingsPainted in black paint along the right side of the piece: Dear President Obama, This is a message of hope and appeal from our younger siblings in Barrack Obama Primary School in your paternal village Kogelo. They are waiting to receive good news from you and are certain you will not disappoint them. With hope, The Youth of KENYA 17th December 2009 Inscribed in pencil in the center of the piece, at bottom of a pasted image: We all need to use solar energy more efficiently as the global population grows and energy demand increases says David Omondi Ojeya Painted in black along bottom border, below an image of a man planting trees: Seedlings of hope
Historical NoteReceived on the occasion of the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen, Denmark from December 7 - December 18.Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
