Physical DescriptionLeather trapezoidal handbag with black and white pattern. The top half has a black and white checker pattern. The lower half has a black and white horizontal stripe pattern. The ends of the purse are red leather and the closure on top is silver metal. There is metal trim along the bottom edges. The handle is red leather and is attached with silver, circular, metal chain links. The interior is tan leather. It is designed so that the handle can be put on the inside and the bag can be used as a clutch.
Historical NoteReceived in May 2010 from Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf during a working visit to the White House.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
