Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is a Liberian politician and economist who served two terms as the President of Liberia from January 16, 2006 until January 22, 2018. Johnson Sirleaf was the first female democratically elected head of state in Africa. In 2011 she was jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work in the non-violent struggle to protect women.
