Margrethe II is Queen of Denmark and commander-in-chief of the Danish Defence. She succeeded her father upon his death on January 14, 1972 and occupied the throne until January 14, 2024 when she abdicated. Her son, Crown Prince Frederick, ascended to the position and became King Frederick X.
