The Group of Eight (G8) is an inter-governmental political forum composed of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States,Canada, and Russia. In March 2014 Russia was suspended indefinitely following the annexation of Crimea, whereupon the political forum name reverted to G7.

The 35th G8 summit was held in L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy, on July 8-10, 2009 and hosted by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. It was moved from the Sardinian seaside city of La Maddalena as part of an attempt to redistribute disaster funds after the 2009 L'Aquila earthquake.
