Pamela Hamamoto is an American diplomat as well as a childhood friend of President Barack Obama. Hamamoto and Obama attended Punahou School together in Hawaii. She became a civil engineer and later worked as an investment banker and as an advisor to educational institutions in California. In 2014, President Obama nominated her to the rank of Ambassador, serving as the Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva. She was sworn into the office in April 2014 and served in the role through the end of the Obama administration in January 2017.
