The Palace Museum

The Palace Museum is a national, government-run, museum in the People's Republic of China that was established to preserve the Forbidden City, an imperial palace of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the collections from the rulers. The museum is China's largest museum and holds the biggest collection of ancient artworks and national treasures. In 1987 the Forbidden City palace complex was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
