Ferdinand Nicolas Monjo

American, 1924 - 1978
F.N. Monjo was a children's book author born in Stamford, Connecticut on August 28, 1924. In 1968, he published his first children's book, Indian Summer. Monjo wrote about historical incidents through a child’s perspective in many of his titles. His best-known book, The Drinking Gourd, tells of a young boy who helps escaping slaves on the Underground Railroad. He won the 1974 National Book Award for Poor Richard in France.
