Jawaharlal Nehru was an Indian politician who served as the first Prime Minister of the newly independent India from 1947 until 1964. Nehru was one of the leaders of the movement for Indian independence. He had a strong connection with Martin Luther King Jr. and encouraged the American Civil Rights movement.
