Carmen Fiol

Carmen Fiol was an Afro-Cuban seamstress turned fashion designer who focused on needle lace. In 2016 Fiol was highlighted for her artistry by The Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets (Fondo Cubano de Bienes Culturales) an organization that is part of the Cuban Ministry of Culture that promotes exceptional Cuban works. She was also a member of a Cuban artisan association (La Asociación Cubana de Artesanos Artistas). Among her many accomplishments was the UNESCO awarde Prize for Craft Excellence.
