Hillary Rodham Clinton is an American politician and diplomat who served as Secretary of State during the Obama administration, from January 21, 2009 to February 1, 2013. After graduating from Yale Law School, she married future president Bill Clinton. She served as the First Lady of Arkansas from 1979-1982 and 1983-1992 and as the First Lady of the United States from 1993-2001. In 2000, she was elected U.S. Senator for New York, becoming the first woman in the role. She ran for the Democratic nomination for President in 2008 but was defeated by Barack Obama. As Secretary of State, Clinton represented the US in foreign affairs and led the State Department.
