The A.T. Cross Company was established by Richard Cross in Providence, Rhode Island in 1846, becoming America’s first manufacturer of fine writing instruments. Today, the A.T. Cross Company continues to manufacture fine writing instruments, timepieces, and personal accessories. President Barack Obama chose the Townsend pen style to use for official business such as signing ceremonies, and later switched to the Century II pen style.
