Arlene Foster is a former lawyer who entered Northern Irish politics as the Minister for the Environment in 2007. In 2008 she was appointed as Minister for the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment, a position she held until May 2015 when she was then appointed as Minister for Finance and Personnel in May 2015. Throughout her career she worked as the Acting Frst Minister on two ocassions, once for a period of three weeks in 2010 and then again in Autumn of 2015. She was then appointed as First Minister on January 11th, 2016, becoming the first woman to hold the poition, which she held until January 2017.
