Kawerak, Inc. is a nonprofit tribal consortium that provides programs to 16 communities of the Inupiaq, St. Lawrence Island Yupik and Yup’ik people of Western Alaska. The organization represents the 20 federally recognized tribes in the Bering Strait Region. Founded as the Bering Straits Native Association (BSNA) in 1967 the organization reorganized as a regional nonprofit corporation in 1971 to empower local governing bodies and provide programs related to medical, education, transportation, and developmental needs.
