Leonel Fernández is a Dominican lawyer and academic who served three terms as the President of the Dominican Republic. Fernández's first term was from nonconsecutive from the other two, lasting from August 1996 until August 2000. Fernández then served another two consecutive terms lasting from August 2004 until August 2012. Immediately after leaving the Office of the President, Fernández served as the Second Gentleman of the Dominican Republic while his then-wife was Vice President.
