Ali Bongo is a Gabonese politician who served as the President of the Gabonese Republic from October 2009 until August 2023. Bongo is the son of Omar Bongo who also served as the President of Gabon and was in office from 1967 until his death in 2009. From 1999 through 2009, Bongo served as the Minister of Defense under his father. He was the Deputy of the National Assembly of Gabon from 1990 until taking the office of the President in 2009.
