Maria Bashir is a prosecutor based in Afghanistan serving as the Chief Prosecutor General of Herat Province. Bashir is the first woman to be appointed Chief Prosecutor in Afghanistan.. She received the International Women of Courage Award in 2011 from the US State Department. She was also included on the 2011 Time Magazine list of 100 most influential people in the world.
