Harry Edwards is an American civil rights activist, sports consultant, and professor of sociology. Edwards founded the Olympic Project for Human Rights in 1967 to protest discrimination against Black athletes in American sports and American participation in the 1968 Olympic Games. He served as a consultant to teams and sports organizations including the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, and Major League Baseball. In these roles, he worked to recruit recruit and improve conditions for Black athletes. He completed his PhD in Sociology at Cornell University in 1970 and served as a Professor of Sociology at the University of California at Berkeley.
