Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is a Filipino politician and academic. She was the President of the Philippines from 2001 until 2010, the first woman to hold the title. Previously, she had served as Vice President. Following her time as President she became a Member of the House of Representatives sering Pampanga's 2nd district from June 2010 until June 2019. She was the first politician in the Philippines to hold elective office after serving as President. Macapagal Arroyo holds a PhD in Economics.
