Shimon Peres(שמעון פרס) was an Israeli statesman and political leader who served as the ninth President of the State of Israel from July 2007 until July 2014. Peres was a career diplomat, having also served two non-consecutive terms as the Israeli Prime Minister and three non-consecutive terms as the Foreign Minister of Israel. Born in Wiszniew, Poland (now Vishnyeva, Belarus), Peres moved to the then-British Mandate Palestine in 1934. During his long career Peres focused on peace and security, he created the Peres Center for Peace which aimed towards joint Arab-Israeli ventures and was in charge of the negotiations that led about the Oslo Accords, for which he received a Nobel Peace Prize.
