Willie Mays was an African American former professional baseball center fielder who is regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He played for the Giants from 1951 to 1952, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and from 1954 to 1972, when he was traded to the New York Mets. He retired from professional baseball in 1973.
