Zahi Hawass is an Egyptian archaeologist and Egyptologist. He served as Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities from 2002 until 2011 and as the first Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs from January 31, 2011 to March 3, 2011 and from April 5, 2011 to July 17, 2011. He has also worked at archaeological sites in the Nile Delta, the Western Desert, and the Upper Nile Valley. Hawass has published multiple books on Egyptology and archaeology. He holds a PhD in Egyptology and has been active on excavating Egyptian history for over 30 years.
