Physical DescriptionWooden accessory box (.a)with designs of inlaid wood and shell, all of Australian origin. On the box lid there is a depiction of a eucalyptus branch with iridescent shell forming the leaves and dark toned wood for the gum nuts. The front of the box has additional depictions of leaves also formed with inlaid shell. The interior of the lid has light toned wood forming the constellation of the Southern Cross which appears on the Australian flag. Within the box there are three nesting boxes (.b-d). All parts of the box have a leather lining at the bottom. The lid of the box is hinged at the back and has a single arm for opening.

Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
