Physical DescriptionEight piece espresso set of handled cups and matching saucers that have white and aqua arched panels on all sides with accented fuschia flowers and gilt lattice detailing. The exterior of the rim is a fuschia chevron trim separated by more gilt lattice. The interior of the rim is decorated with an aqua band with that has borders each divided into chevrons by gilt lattice. Inside the aqua rim are gold dot decorations. The saucers have a gilt lattice with a pink base around the outside. The rim of the saucers are fuschia with matching gilt lattice and have white center with further aqua and gilded detailing. In the center face of the saucer there is a fuschia flower.
Historical NoteReceived on the occasion of a working visit to the White House by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on September 27, 2013. The design and motifs on the set tell the story of Emperor Jahangir and Noor Jahan, who crossed the snowy passes of the Pir Panjal to spend summer months in Kashmir.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
