Physical DescriptionPhysical DescriptionAn American flag with embroidered stars in the canton. The flag features fifty embroidered white stars on a blue canton, with thirteen alternating red and white stripes. The hoist end of the flag consists of a canvas header. The original metal grommets on the header are destroyed or missing.
Historical NoteThe piece was pulled from the rubble of the Alberta Elementary School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama after it was destroyed by a tornado on April 27, 2011. The flag was presented on the occasion of President Barack Obama's visit to Alabama to view the devastation.Custodial History / ProvenanceThis item is material associated with various agencies and offices during the Obama administration and maintained as government property until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
