Physical DescriptionLacquerware wooden box with a painted scene from the Russian folktale the Little Humpbacked Horse painted on the lid. The scene has a crowd of people to the left, two large horses and a smaller horse in front of another crowd on the right. In the background of the scene there is a walled city. The lid edges and sides of box are decorated with a gold swirling leaf motif.Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the Obama administration. It was received through the U.S. General Services Administration and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
