Physical DescriptionA hand painted Passover Seder plate.The plate is white with a blue rim and decorative blue, pink, light blue, yellow flowers and green leaves. In the center is the Hebrew spelling of Pesach (Passover) in a circle, surrounded by smaller circles with the traditional seder plate components written in Hebrew and English translations.
Historical NoteThis Seder Plate is a part of the "Seder in a Box" set, a package that contains the ritual objects necessary for a Passover Seder. During the 2008 Presidential Campaign, three Obama aides held a Passover Seder in their hotel room during the campaign trail. President Barack Obama attended the event and the Passover Seder celebration continued annually in the White House throughout the Obama Administration. The "Seder in a Box" set was a farewell gift to the First Family from three 2008 campaign aides who continued to work in the Obama Administration.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThis item is part of materials acquired by the White House support staff during the Obama administration and maintained by the Executive Office of the President (White House Office of Records Management) until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
