Physical DescriptionA mixed-media map of London. The map is made from brass pins outlining the city borders with white strings strung from each pin to pins set in the shape of a heart at the center. The heart is strung with red string, and represents where the Mulberry School is located within the city of London. On the back is a piece of paper with drawings of girls wearing red doing various activities and a message from a student at the school to the First Lady.Historical NoteFirst Lady Michelle Obama received this gift when students from the Mulberry School visited the White House on November 18th, 2015 to hear her speak. A year earlier, in the summer of 2014, the First Lady had visited Mulberry School as part of the "Let Girls Move" initiative.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
