Physical DescriptionLarge shadow box with blue matting board containing various Alabama county police patches and badges as well as black and white pictures depicting the civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery. In the center there is a plaque dedicating the gift above a photograph depicting President Barack Obama awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Representative John Lewis. In the bottom left there is a black and white photograph depicting Amelia Boynton and police. In the bottom right there is a black and white photograph depicting a young John Lewis speaking at a podium.

Historical NoteThis gift was presented to mark the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery marches across the Edmund Pettis Bridge, which took place in March 1965. According to the gifter, the patches and badges are artifacts from the Selma March.Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
