Physical DescriptionA black and red poster with a printed drawing depicting an African American boy, standing on a stack of books being processed into prison. At the bottom of the poster there is an explanation of the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund's (DREDF) goal to reduce discrimination and provide services to minority groups with disabilities.Historical NoteThe poster was given at the reception celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This law allows everyone with a disability to pass through once-closed doors into a bright new era of equality, freedom, and independence.
The art piece was inspired by one of Ms. Mayerson's clients. The client's suspension notices from school frame the drawing.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
