Physical DescriptionA three-part gift set composed of a scroll (.a) and a key (.b) with matching stand (.c). The scroll contains a painting depicting city scenes along the Central Axis of Old and Modern Beijing. The outside of the scroll is gold colored patterned fabric tied with a brown, orange, and yellow woven ribbon with a carved ivory clip. The key is metal with a bronze tone and inscribed. The head of the key is designed to resemble a Ruyi a traditional jade ornament and symbol of good luck, and the teeth are depictions the seven world cultural heritage sites in Beijing. The stem has a raised design depicting waves. A white marble stand for the key is engraved in gold in English and Chinese and has notches to fit the key.

Historical NoteThis was gifted from the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and Beijing Municipal People's Government during the APEC meeting in November 2014.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama during the Obama administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
