Physical DescriptionDecorative cloisonné pot (.a) designed to represent peace across four seas that sits on a rotating wood base (.b). The body of the vase is decorated with floral motifs in various shades of blue with a gold metal upper lip and two gold rings beneath the neck. On each of the four sides there is a circular frame enclosed by gold water motifs representing the Four Seas. The front frame contains the APEC logo. The back frame contains an illustration of the main APEC venue, Yanqi Lake in Beijing. In the two side frames are illustrations of the Heavenly Temple and a section of the Great Wall, two landmarks of Beijing. The base is carved decoratively and sits on four legs.
Historical NoteThis was gifted from the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, during the APEC meeting in China in November 2014.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
