Physical DescriptionA black plaque with sample IBM computer processors inspired by the brain. The piece is made up of twelve squares - in horizontal rows of four - with a gold square in the center row and a computer chip implanted in the square to the right of it. The right side of the piece features text describing the piece. Back of plaque has holes for mounting.
Historical NoteThis items was received at a White House meeting to support the President Obama's BRAIN Initiative on Neuroscience in September 2014 by an individual who works in the division of IBM that develops similar neural processors. The processor showcased on the plaque was featured on Grey's Anatomy, season 10 episode 13 and season 11 episodes 1-3 & 8 when the character Derek Shepard is offered to work on the BRAIN Initiative project by the President.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
