Physical DescriptionTen-karat gold and diamond San Francisco Forty-Niners Super Bowl XXIX Championship ring that belonged to Harry Edwards. The oval-shaped face features five diamond depictions of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, consisting of a pointed oval diamond over a rectangular diamond, with circular diamonds embedded around them. Engraved above the oval is "FORTY" and below is "NINERS." The championship year "1994" is engraved with one digit at each corner of the face. The right side of the band features an enamel and engraved design that includes a red oval containing "SF" beside the blue and red diamond-shaped logo for the NFL's 75th season; below this is the logo for Super Bowl XXIX; below is the engraved final score "49" "26" above a football shape. The left side of the band is engraved with "EDWARDS," the shapes of five Vince Lombardi trophies above the Golden Gate Bridge, "49ers," and "16-3."
Historical NoteGiven to President Barack Obama by Harry Edwards, a civil rights activist, sports consultant, and sociologist. Edwards received this ring when he worked as a staff consultant for the San Francisco 49ers when they won Super Bowl XXIX on January 29, 1995.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama during the Obama administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
