Physical DescriptionTraditional robe of the Ainu people of Japan made of a blue fabric with thin colorful vertical lines and applied blue, white, and red patches in geometric and curving shapes held in place with dark blue embroidered lines. The reverse has a geometric pattern with red and blue patches in the center.
Historical NoteReceived on the occasion of an official state visit to Japan in April 2014.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
