Physical DescriptionWood jewelry box with traditional Chinese designs carved throughout. Both short sides of the box contain carvings depicting two birds perched near flowers with a traditional border. The reverse of the box contains a carving depicting a rock with a tree sprawling out to its left and a sun above a single cloud in the top left. The top of the box's lid contains a carving depicting a bird with a long tail flying over many flowers. The front of the box contains six drawers which can be completely removed, two wide and four narrow. The interior of the lid contains a mirror and when the lid is opened it exposes twelve evenly divided squares for storage. The lid is held open by two metal chains and the entire box has metal corners and pull handles on the drawers and lid.

Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to the First Family during the Obama administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
