Physical DescriptionBright orange Cooperstown Central School Hawkeyes jersey with "Cooperstown 30" on the front. Under Armor logo at the top left, white stripes under each shoulder. Under Armor authentic patch with the size in the lower left. On the back is Obama and the number 30. On both sleeves is the school logo, Cooperstown Central School Hawkeyes.Overall W 25 3/16 in x L 37 1/4 in (64 cm x 94.6 cm )
Historical NoteThis item was received during the Tribal Nations Conference in November 2013. The gifter was an Oneida Indian Nation Representative and gave the jersey to President Barack Obama as a gift of thanks for speaking out against the use of the moniker "redskins" for sports teams.
In April of 2013, Cooperstown Central School in New York changed their mascot from the "Redskins" to the Hawkeyes. In recognition of the change, the Oneida Indian Nation offered a donation to help offset the cost new uniforms.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
