Physical DescriptionBlack traditional Arabic thawb, a tunic-like garment. Along the curve of the collar and following the buttons there is gold thread embroidery creating a star pattern. The thawb is squared and there is additional gold embroidery along the edges and gold tassels at the bottom corners. At the top end of each sleeve there is additional gold embroidered detailing with a rounded cap containing a geometric pattern.
Historical NoteReceived on the occasion of a working visit by Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa to the White House in April 2014.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
