Physical DescriptionLarge round Nigerian Hausa mat composed of patchwork pieces of primarily white leather ringed with gold vinyl and accented with yellow vinyl flowers with red and green leather detailing. Pattern repeats until the center where there is a message composed of patchwork gold viny letters. At the very center of the mat is a leatherwork piece of the Nigeran Coat of Arms, red with yellow vinyl backed a against a green and white striped background. Underside of the mat is solid yellow.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
