Physical DescriptionGranite replica of the stele of Hammurabi on a wooden stand with inlaid mother of pearl border around the base. Figures in the relief above the code are gilt in gold. On the front of the stele is an etching of part of Hammurabi's code.Historical NoteReceived during Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki's working visit to the White House in November 2013.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
