Physical DescriptionHand-sewn Christmas wreath memorializing the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The wreath is made of green felt on a black felt covered board. Attached to the center of the board are four ceramic ornaments bearing the handwritten names of the 26 victims. The wreath is decorated with felt holly leaves and various colorful felt decorations in the shapes of presents, ornaments, and other Christmas themed shapes. The figures are made of felt and decorated with sequins, beads, and thread. From the wreath hangs a green Sandy Hook remembrance ribbon. On the reverse is hardware for hanging.Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
