Physical DescriptionHandmade woven textile bag with black sides, a canvas interior, purple leather panels on the ends, and a purple leather bottom. The woven sides have squares that alternate between an "X" pattern and a dot pattern. At the top are purple leather handles attached with gold-colored metal rivets. There is also a leather strap with a buckle to keep the bag closed. There are two interior pockets.Historical NoteReceived on the occasion of an official state visit to Tanzania in July, 2013.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to the First Family during the Obama administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
