Physical DescriptionOfficial Super Bowl XX Football. The brown leather ball (.a) is comprised of four panels, with white leather stitching along the top. The honorary ball was presented to POTUS with the addition of a white vinyl panel with game information printed on it. The football sits on a base (.c) enclosed in an acrylic case (.b) with a Chicago Bears logo etched in the lower front left corner. The black wooden base has four holes drilled in the center, into which four acrylic pegs serve as a stand for the ball.
Historical NoteReceived on the occasion of an event at the White House to honor the 1986 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears. In 1986, the team’s White House reception was canceled due to the Space Shuttle Challenger tragedy.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
