Physical DescriptionSmall commemorative statue composed of a metal cross attached to a slanted wooden base. The cross is a model of a larger one that overlooks Santiago, Chile. The obverse of base has a token in blue, white, and yellow for the municipality of Renca and a plaque of dedication from the Mayor of Renca. The reverse of the item has a plaque detailing the history of the cross.

Vicky Barahona Kunstmann Alcaldesa Santiago, Chile 2013 Text of plaque on reverse: LA CRUZ DE LA EVANGELIZACIÓN En la cumbre del Cerro Renca, abrazando de dia a los habitantes del gran Santiago, y de noche, velando el sueño de todos los renguinos, se erige a 904 metros sobre el nivel del mar, esta monumental Cruz, construida con motivo de los 500 años de Evangelizacion de America. Esta estructura simbólica de Renca, tiene una altura de 23 metros y la extensión de sus brazos es de 17 metros y no existe para los habitantes de esta comuna, un icono de reconocimiento más importante que esta.

Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.
