Physical DescriptionAfghanistan National Interdiction Unit flag. The flag is black with a red eagle and three lightning bolts set over a green depiction of Afghanistan. There is white writing in Dari embroidered at the top of the flag and "NIU" embroidered in red at the bottom. There are two metal grommets at the top and bottom of the left edge of the flag. The reverse of the flag is entirely black.
Historical NoteThe donor attended the International Women of Courage Award Ceremony on March 8, 2013 where she was an award recipient.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
