Physical DescriptionGold-toned award medallion, one side of the coin has a stylized logo of the profile of a woman with her hair wrapped and the words "Sierra Leone Women of Excellence Golden Award Celebrating 50 years of Excellence" following the curve of the coin's edge. The other side of the coin has a raised depiction of the Coat of Arms of Sierra Leone and the dates "27th April 1961", "27th April 2011", at the top and bottom.
Historical NoteSierra Leone selected First Lady Michelle Obama as a recipient of their Women of Excellence Golden Award in 2011.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Michelle Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
