Physical DescriptionA framed recreation of a traditional Kazakh "tumar" amulet. The amulet consists of three blue segments: a triangle at the top with gold geometric lines; a decorative ornament called a "Karlygash" with a dark blue spiral enclosed in a yellow and green box with red decorative flourishes at each corner; and a rectangular bar with gold geometric lines. The segments are connected by three strands of black braided leather that hang below the frame and connect to brown, blue, red, and white tassels. The piece has a tan background with two white spirals in the top corners, inside a brown and black wood frame with gold detailing.

Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama during the Obama administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
