Physical DescriptionNavy blue rope hammock (.a) with curved wooden end bars. There is blue, black, and olive colored rope tied to the navy blue netting that attaches to the metal rings on both ends of the hammock. One end of the rope that attaches to the metal ring contains red rope intertwined with metal beads and the other end contains green rope intertwined with metal beads. There are additional metal beads threaded through both sides of the rope outside of the wooden bars. Attached to one side of the hammock with metal loops is a navy blue and olive rope net pouch with both ends capped in brown leather.

Included is a pillow (.b) with a leather bottom and ends with olive cords attached. The front of the pillow contains an embroidered beach scene with sailboats, umbrellas, chairs, and shells. Both ends of the pillow contain a velcro strip to seal the ends.

Also included are two bundles of white rope (.c-d) and two metal s-hooks (.e-f).
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to the First Family during the Obama administration. It was received through the Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
