Physical DescriptionTwo reproductions of the 1918 Georgian Declaration of Independence for the Democratic Republic of Georgia held in a dark wooden display hinged display case that has a glass window etched with a depiction of the Georgian Coat of Arms. The edges of the lid has intricate traditional carvings and in the bottom center there is an inset copper toned plaque. Inside the case there is one paper with the Declaration in Georgian and the other with the Declaration in English. Both have the same illustration depicting St. George on horseback slaying a dragon.Historical NoteReceived on the occasion of a working visit to the White House by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on January 30, 2012.
Custodial History / ProvenanceThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Barack Obama during the Obama Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in January 2017 for deposit with the Obama Presidential Library.Additional Details
